"Sacred Rescue" 20x24, Original Oil on Canvas

$9,360.00

Created in 2026, the story in my head as I painted, depicts a scene where riders have encountered a slaughter, with one lone calf standing by the body of it’s mother. Considered sacred, the calf is guided to camp as a mascot and protector of the tribe.

My inspiration was the actual rescue of a white buffalo calf from a kill auction by friend and actress, Dawn Olivieri. He lives today on her farm, “Moon Mountain Sancuary and Rescue,” in Mena, Arkansas. Many wild horses rescued are sent to a group of Native American trainers, before being shipped to the “Moon.” Thus the connection. Ironically, Chanu, as he is named, likewise has assumed the rold of guardian of Dawn’s premises.
